Tooth decay and other related conditions are the biggest cause of primary school aged children being hospitalised in the UK. For this reason, it’s crucial that your child is having his or her oral health regularly checked.

Here at Thaxted Dental Centre Ltd, we’re happy to see children from a very young age and typically children under four can be seen within their parent’s appointment at no extra charge.

To book, simply call our friendly team today on 01371 830 950 and we will be happy to help.

How often should your child visit the dentist?

When your child reaches 4 years of age, we will complete a formal ‘new patient’ examination just as we do for adult. We will then advise you to schedule regular visits for your child with both the dentist and our hygienist.

The emphasis at any given time will depend on their dental development, growth and their home care.  As your child matures physically and emotionally we will tailor their care appropriately.

During your child’s appointment….

Our experienced team will check their teeth for signs of dental decay. This type of precautionary measure is vital for maintaining your child’s dental health. Often, we can spot the early signs of decay which can be treated with simple changes to diet and home care, eliminating the need for drilling and filling.  Vulnerable areas will be routinely sealed by the hygienist or therapist to prevent decay on the biting surfaces of the teeth.

Ensure your child enjoys the perfect smile

If your child has a crooked smile, they may need to have a brace to straighten any irregularities. At Thaxted Dental Centre Ltd, we will routinely screen for orthodontic problems which will determine their need for orthodontic treatment.

If they would benefit from this type of treatment, we would be happy to refer your child to a local specialist that we trust, either through the NHS or privately, as you prefer.

For more information about our orthodontic examinations, please give our friendly team a call today on 01371 830 950 and we will be happy to help.

Preventing conditions such as tooth decay is vital; it saves having to treat for them

For this reason, appointments with our hygienist are an integral part of your child’s dental care.

During your child’s hygienist appointment we will show them how to maintain good oral hygiene for a lifetime, through the mixed dentition (baby teeth and adult teeth together), braces and beyond.

Diet advice
We look at foods and drinks, which can cause harm to your child’s teeth and promote healthy eating habits. We’ll look at the damaging effects of fizzy drinks and frequent snacks on tooth enamel.

Fluoride varnish application
This is applied to vulnerable areas to help prevent dental decay in your child’s teeth.

Sealants to stop decay before it starts

Because we see your child regularly, we can plan to seal the adult molars at just the right time to prevent decay before it starts.  Prevention is always better than cure.

To book your child’s hygienist appointment, or for more information, please call our friendly team today on 01371 830 950 and we will be happy to help.

Protect your children’s smiles while they are playing sports

If your child regularly plays contact sport, then an individually made sports mouth guard should be a vital part of their kit. Call our team today so they can explain why a custom-fit mouth guard is more effective than a ‘boil and bite’ type; mainly because they offer better protection.

Or, if you would like to order a custom-fit mouth guard, please call 01371 830 950 today and we will be happy to help.
